Traditional Log Frame Construction from Southern Log Crafters LLC

What is Traditional Log Frame construction from SLC?

Traditional Log Frame is a handcrafted post and beam type construction technique that is engineered and constructed much like a timber frame home. Minimal mechanical fasteners are utilized in our Traditional Log Frame homes. We use some of the same joinery techniques that were used in Japanese timber frames over centuries ago with wood pegs as our fastening system. These homes are designed and built to last the sands of time while offering little to zero impact on the environment.

How much does it cost?

The cost of the Traditional Log Frame’s structural frame normally ranges from $18 to $35 per square foot depending on the size and complexity of the structure. Most homes, when combining our structural frames with our wall and roof “skin” options, range between $50 and $75 per square foot.

What is Log Frame construction from SLC?

Log Frame construction is the same as Traditional Log Frame but without the actual mortise and tenon joinery. You still have the option of full scribe or box back methods, but both are held together with mechanical fasteners and/or black iron connections. The structural frame costs range from $15 to $30 per square foot.

How long does it take to build?

Our process is fairly simple. Once you have signed off on the final design, we can begin the ordering and cutting process. The ordering and cutting process takes from one to six months, depending on the size and complexity of the structure. All projects are scheduled as closely as possible to meeting the customer’s needs for the on-site installation. Once the package and crafters arrive at your project site, most instillations take only three to ten days.

What kind of foundation do I need?

Any foundation can be utilized. Our homes can be put on slabs, crawlspaces, and basements. Any standard foundation materials can be used.

Green building process:
A term that refers to designing and building structures that are environmentally sound and follow the tenets of sustainability. Such buildings consume less energy, are durable and can be recycled. During all phases, the building saves resources and places fewer burdens on the environment, protects workers and minimizes health exposures.

Natural building process:
This is a term that refers to the involvement of a range of building systems and materials that place major emphasis on sustainability. Ways of achieving sustainability through natural building focus on durability and the use of minimally-processed, plentiful or renewable resources, as well as those which, while recycled or salvaged, produce healthy living environments and maintain indoor air quality.

Here at SLC, we pride ourselves at being one of the first companies in the construction industry to promote both Natural and Green building processes. We want to do our part in helping to save the world for generations to come. By utilizing low environmental impact materials wherever possible in our home design and construction services, we can.
